'Cofiwch Epynt' 'Remember Epynt' .
Eightieth anniversary of the seizure of land and dissplacement of a Welsh speakig community on the Epynt mountain near Brecon, to create a British Army training base/firing range. It is still used for that purpose, armies from all over the world come there to 'practice' warfare. The farmers (54 families) were not compensated and the land never returned to them. The name 'Epynt' derives from the 'place of horses' as in the Brythonic 'Epona', Celtic goddess of horses . She is represented in The Mabinogi as Rhiannon, associated with horses (which no one can catch up with) and with creativity and re-birth.

As part of her Dissertation a grand daughter interviewed John Jones The Lion (Lion Fawr). Here are parts of the interview.
"Granny came out from Blaenysgir-fawr, she whitewashed the walls all around the garden, scrubbed the floors all and locked the doors because she thought we'd be back in as soon as the war finished. But we never did, that was the end of it. I can remember that, everything when they came from there was spotless. We didn't realise until after the war was over that we weren't going back to the Epynt."
> I asked him if he still considered himself as one of the people of the Epynt, he said "oh yes... I'll always be an Epynt boy." Elizabeth Morgan on the FB page: Atgofion Epynt.
